Dog training is getting into the behavioral response of a dog and applies the conditioning techniques to manipulate those attitudes of dogs. These and more are the concern of every dog owner who learned to be a trainer (for their dog) and something about dog training. But wait, learning to be a “trainer” must also enjoy working with the people who own the pets, because a trainer is to train people to train their dogs. Aside from changing the attitudes of a dog and working with their owners, there are other qualities that require you to start as a good trainer. You should be excellent in dealing with people, motivated, strong business skills, organizational and marketing skills.
Upon learning those skills, in establishing a dog trainer school you should have to keep classes small for you to maintain the one-on-one attention for the trainer and the student. Large training schools tend to have more students per class; therefore, time with each student may be limited. The school and trainer should teach aspirant trainers exactly what to learn and more importantly, what will theaspirants be doing in their career as a trainer.
As a trainer or perhaps a school for dog trainers you are bound to provide dogs for the students to have a “hands-on” experience of training dog during their time at the school or the training class for them to practice and usually be tested on the particular dog. In this stage of their training, they will be exposed to different types of dogs’ attitudes and behavioral response. And as a teacher, you must help them understand the different temperamental attitudes of the dog for them to be prepared for their career as a professional trainer. They will also be introduced on training tools, devices and gadgets and, which is the right one for a particular dog.
In assigning a dog to a student, safety concern is a must. Each student must have the right match because there are dogs that are more active, more aggressive and noisier. Some are just timid and slow. So you as the teacher must recognize and identify the problem areas for each student-dog and be able to resolve the problems. You should have the ability to teach them about the science of animal behavior and how this knowledge is applied in real life situations. You should also train the students to understand the evolution of dog training and the proven science on how dog thinks and how they learn. With these, you will develop the philosophy of dog training and animal behavior. Let the students feel the responsibility of being a trainer and understand that in most cases, bad dog behavior is the owner’s negligence and error, not the dog’s.
